'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range strike from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess promptly slammed home the rebound before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory completed an unbelievable recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 deep into the second half. During the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win earned a upcoming match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's first-time shot from about way out going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after Orient changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he linked up again with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford, before he departed his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away games against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his father, his father, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's only game for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was freezing," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "The decision proved quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
